What is an advisory council? The Early Intervention Advisory Councils are groups of individuals who represent various agencies that provide Early Intervention and Early Childhood Special Education services to children with disabilities and their families.
Members include parents as well as representatives from Northwest Regional Education Service District, the Department of Mental Health, Head Start, CDRC, Public Health, Community Preschools, and local schools.
The purpose of the council is to discuss the needs and issues surrounding the children and families being served, and to advise and assist service providers on how needs and issues can best be resolved to ensure a coordinated, quality system of service delivery.
What do the councils do for early intervention? The Advisory Councils discuss the needs and issues facing children with disabilities and their families. The councils make recommendations for improvements and build contacts between responsible agencies, teachers, and parents.
The councils are dedicated to taking an active leadership role and to creating key task forces that will not only make recommendations to the EI/ECSE program and agencies serving our children and families, but also to the Oregon Department of Education. All Advisory Council meetings are open to the public.
What are the goals of the council?
Engage in activities that build and strengthen connections between Early Intervention and the community.
Coordinate early intervention/early childhood special education services to include support to families at home, school and in the community.
Encourage and provide opportunities for families to participate in advocacy activities.
